Coronation Street: Alina Pop loses baby after flat fire

Alina Pop was left utterly devastated this evening as she lost her baby on Coronation Street.

The factory worker, played by Ruxandra Porojnicu, was in tears as she was told that her unborn child’s heart had stopped beating.

She was in hospital after inhaling a lot of smoke from the flames and was left feeling unwell, but believed that she and her baby would be OK.

Tyrone, played by Alan Halsall, told Alina that she loved her and their unborn son, which they named Andre after her grandfather in heartbreaking scenes.

The pair were about to return home when Alina doubled over in pain and clutched her stomach, telling the doctor that she was bleeding.

When she was taken for more tests, the couple were left devastated when the sonographer told them that they couldn’t detect the baby’s heartbeat.

The doctor broke the news that Alina had suffered a miscarriage, saying: “I’m so sorry,’ she said, ‘but the baby’s heart has stopped beating.

“You’re miscarrying the baby.”

The pair began to cry as Alina blamed herself for losing the baby after she lit an aromatherapy candle.

“I left the candle on,” she said. “I killed our baby!”

However, it was actually Hope that set the flat on fire after aiming to burn down the baby’s crib.

Evelyn appears to have figured out that it was actually Hope, with her pointing out to Fiz that Hope’s behaviour had been odd.

“It just weren’t right,” she remarked.

Gobsmacked, Fiz questioned: “Are you seriously saying that Hope could be responsible for that?”

Evelyn backed down as she said: “No, you’re right. I’m sorry.”

But Fiz appeared to have the thought in her own mind as she appeared unsure.

Will she be able to accept that her daughter is capable of doing such a thing?
